- First impressions are lasting impressions. Tidy up the grounds,
porches & garage. Keep the lawn trimmed and edged in summer,
and sidewalks shoveled in winter.
- Consider a fresh coat of paint on the front door, and make sure
locks, hinges and doorbell are in good working order.
- Let the sun shine in! Open blinds and curtains and leave lights
on for showings. Replace any burnt-out bulbs, and use high-wattage
bulbs in all areas of your home.
- Fresh paint and polished woodwork enhance the appeal of any property.
Consider a new coat of white paint to brighten your home's interior.
- Attend to small repairs - leaky faucets, loose knobs and poorly
aligned doors are small items which can have a negative impact on
a purchaser. A bit of time invested now can reap benefits later.
- Be scent-sitive to others. You may love the flavours of exotic
spices, but not every potential buyer will share your taste. Avoid
cooking foods whose aromas linger long after the meal has been enjoyed.
- Homes seem more spacious when they are uncluttered. Keep stairs
and walkways clear of toys and other items. You want your guests
to be safe, and not be distracted from seeing your home. Remove all
unnecessary items from closets. Have a garage sale!
- Kitchens and bathrooms sell homes - make sure they sparkle! Keep
countertops clear and sinks empty. Remove photos and magnets from
the refrigerator door.
- You love your pet, and we love ours too, but not everyone is an
animal lover. Some people are allergic and some children are frightened
of animals. Keep pets outside or confined to one room while showing.
- Soft music playing is fine, but the TV is best kept off during
showings.
- Never apologize for your home. Be proud of it!
